Monkey Music Competition: Submit your original composition & WIN!

May is New Zealand Music Month and what better way to celebrate than with a competition!


We have OVER $4000 in prizes to giveaway to THREE artists with the best original compositions.


Whether you're a 10 piece jazz ensemble performing live, or a solo musician recording in your bedroom - if you wrote it, we want to hear it!


The criteria for judging will include originality, musicality and performance and the winning compositions will be chosen by our Muso Monkeys.


Submissions are open from 1st May to 31st May 2022

Entry Requirements:

  • Participants must submit a video or audio recording of their original musical composition or performance via the Rubber Monkey entry form. This can be uploaded or can be a public link to an external platform - e.g YouTube / Vimeo / Soundcloud / Spotify.

  • All entries should be no longer than 6 minutes in length (excerpts acceptable).

  • If your song has already been released, this must have been within in the past year (1 May 2021 + ).

  • All entries must be from unsigned artists.

  • Entry into the competition is limited to ONE entry per person.

Terms & Conditions

  • To enter the competition, participants must submit a video or audio recording of their original musical composition or performance via the Rubber Monkey entry form. This can be uploaded or can be a public link to an external platform - e.g YouTube / Vimeo / Soundcloud / Spotify. (Upload can be an audio file or video)

  • All entries should be no longer than 6 minutes in length (excerpts acceptable)

  • All entries must be from unsigned artists. Entry into the competition is limited to ONE entry per person. If more than one entry is made, only the first will be considered for the competition.

  • By entering the competition, entrants certify that the musical material submitted is their own, and is not subject to copyright (or if so, that the entrant has the rights to any such copyright, and/or is posting with the copyright holder's permission).

  • The entrant submitting the material confirms they are doing so with the permission of any other performers that may also feature in the recording. E.g If you are entering as part of a band, you must have the permission of all your band members.

  • The competition is open to anyone 16 years or older residing in New Zealand at the time the competition is active. Entrants under the age of 18 must have the permission of their parents or guardian before entering the competition.

  • If your song has already been released, this must have been within in the past year (1 May 2021 + ).

  • Submissions are open from 1st May to 31st May 2022.

  • The winning compositions will be chosen by Muso Monkeys

  • The criteria used for judging will include originality, musicality and performance. The technical quality of the recording will not form part of the judging criteria.

  • Entrants will only be eligible to win one of the three prizes.

  • All prizes will be awarded to the performer(s) of the song. The entrant listed on the entry form will be the point of contact between Rubber Monkey and the performer(s) and will be responsible for the division of prizes among the performers.

  • The winners will be contacted via email. If the winner does not respond within 10 working days, the prize may be forfeited.

  • The winners will be announced via Rubber Monkey's social media channels, email and blog.

  • The entrant retains all ownership rights to all original song(s). Rubber Monkey will not have any ownership rights to any song(s) submitted.

  • Material submitted as part of the competition may be posted by Rubber Monkey on our social media & blog in conjunction with the competition.

  • Material that breaches these terms & conditions will be disqualified from the competition.
